Uber CEO opts out as member of Trump’s Advisory team after criticism

Travis Kalanick, the chief executive of Uber has stepped down as a member of Donald Trump’s economic advisory council.

This comes on the heels of accusations that company was seeking to profit from giving rides to airport customers in New York during weekend protests against President Trump’s immigration order.

In an email to his employees explaining why he stepped down Mr. Kalanick said; “There are many ways we will continue to advocate for just change on immigration, but staying on the council was going to get in the way of that”.

Employee backlash is also given as one of the reasons Mr. Kalanick who joined Trump’s economic advisory council in December stepped down as staff members of his company also questioned why he was still willing to advise the president after the immigration order against refugees and seven Muslim-majority countries.

Mr. Kalanick’s exit from the advisory council underscores the tricky calculus facing many Silicon Valley corporate chieftains who try to work with the new administration led by Trump.
