Uber keeping court battle with Google out of public knowledge

24-hours after a former employee of Uber, Susan Fowler accused the company of rampant s*xual harassment and human resources negligence in a blog post, the CEO of the transport service firm,Travis Kalanick has ordered for an independent investigation regarding the issue.

His order was conveyed in a memo obtained by TechCrunch which also revealed that the company has copied former US Attorney General Eric Holder and Tammy Albarran, partners at law firm Covington & Burling, to independently investigate the workplace issues Fowler spoke about in her blog post.

In tweet posted few hours ago, Uber board member Arianna Huffington said she will take part in the review, along with Uber’s chief human resources officer Liane Hornsey and the company’s associate general counsel Angela Padilla.

The accusations by the former site reliability engineer for Uber and current engineer at Stripe is the latest in a series of events that point to serious questions about Uber’s company culture.

Fowler claims that on her first day out of training, she was solicited for s*x by a superior on an internal company chat thread. She then immediately captured screenshots of the messages and sent them to Uber’s human resources department.

In a healthy organization, such a problem would have been quickly resolved. But Fowler alleges that the harassment only continued, preventing her from moving up within the company.
