UCL: Defeats for Real Madrid, Bayern, Atletico as Liverpool cruise
European giants Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid all fell to defeats in Wednesday’s Champions League matches.
Real Madrid were beaten 1-0 by their French hosts Lille, Bayern Munich fell to a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa while Atletico got thrashed 4-0 by Benfica.
Lille’s Jonathan David converted a penalty in the added time of the first half to see off Real Madrid, who had Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham all in action.
In England, it was a late goal by Jhon Durán that sealed the win for Aston Villa over Bayern.

The tie was a repeat of the Villa’s 1982 European Cup final victory over the German giants.
In Portugal, Aktürkoğlu, Angel Di María (penalty), Bah and Kökçü (penalty) all scored for Benfica to thrash Atletico Madrid 4-0 – a game after their 1-1 draw in Madrid derby on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Liverpool secured a 2-0 victory over Bologna, to keep their Champions League winning run this season, having begun with a win a fortnight ago.
Goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah helped the Reds defeat battling Italian side Bologna at Anfield.
In the other Champions League ties, Sturm Graz were beaten 1-0 by Club Brugge, RB Leipzig lost 3-2 to Juventus, Dinamo Zagreb and Monaco played a 2-2 draw, while Girona fell to a 3-2 defeat to Feyenoord.
