UCL: Leicester beat Sevilla to last-8 as Juve cruise past Porto

English Premier League champions Leicester City are through to the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League after a thrilling 2-0 victory against Spanish giants Sevilla at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night.

Trailing 2-1 from the first leg in Spain, Wes Morgan kneed City ahead in the first half before Marc Albrighton put them ahead on goals with a strike in the second.

Sevilla’s Samir Nasri was sent off for a second yellow card in the 74th minute. And when an opportunity for it came, they failed to take the tie to extra time as Steven N’Zonzi missed a penalty.

“Incredible. I can’t quite believe it. We are newcomers in the Champions League, didn’t expect to get this far and here we are,” goalscorer Morgan said after the game.

City’s Boss Craig Shakespeare has been appointed manager until the end of the season – and if he carries on in his current form he might be able to name his price to lead the Foxes on.

“Immense. The players can be immensely proud of themselves. We were immense from the first whistle until the last. We rode our luck at times but the character was immense,” Shakespeare said.

In the other last-16 tie ofthe night, Italian giants Juventus pipped Portugal’s FC Porto 1-0 to advance to the quarterfinals of the competition.

Leading 2-0 from the first leg, Juve sealed their qualification with a 3-0 aggregate, conceding no goal from the Primeira Liga side.

Paulo Dybala’s first-half penalty, coupled with Maxi Pereira’s sending off made it an easy one for the Italian champions.

Ten-man Porto had a couple of decent chances to get back into the tie in the second half, but couldn’t take them.

The teams now confirmed as Champions League quarter-finalists this season are, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid, Juventus and Leicester City.

Monaco will host Manchester City for their second leg tie on Wednesday, as well as Atletico Madrid against Bayer Leverkusen to determine the final two sides in the last eight.

The quarter-final draw takes place on Friday.
