UCL: Messi breaks goal record; Odey scores as Liverpool cruise to big win

Barcelona forward, Lionel Messi scored against Czech Republic’s Slavia Prague in the Champions League on Wednesday to become the first player to score in 15 consecutive seasons.

The Argentine opened the scoring in the 3rd minute to put Barca ahead after an exchange of passes with Arthur.

The Czech champions levelled in the 50th minute when Jan Boril poked home Lukas Masopust’s pass from 16 yards, but Peter Olayinka netted an own goal seven minutes later to hand the visitors all three points.

The goal got in when Olayinka got hit by a ceoss-shot from Luis Suarez following a Messi freekick in the 57th minute.

The Spanish champions stay top of Group F on 7 points, three above Inter Milan who defeated visiting Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in San Siro also on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, defending champions Liverpool secured their second victory in the conpetition this season by beating Belgium side KRC Genk 4-1.

A brace by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and a goal each by Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane were enough to hand the visitors the victory.

In the final minutes of the encounter, Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu had a low shot palmed out by Alisson, and the Brazilian goalkeeper was eventually beaten through a Stephen Odey consolation in the 88th minute.

The Jurgen Klopp side are second in Group E, behind leaders Napoli, who defeated RB Salzburg 3-2 to stay seven points at the top.

In Group G, Benfica defeated Olympique Lyon 2-1, while RB Leipzig had already beaten Zenit Petersburg 2-1 earlier in the day.

In Group H, Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen was in action throughout the game for Lille, who played a 1-1 draw with Valencia.

Chelsea scored a late winner at Ajax earlier in the day.
