UCL: Messi masterclass as Barca beat Spurs; late Napoli goal stuns Liverpool

Argentinian forward, Lionel Messi, put up a brilliant display at Wembley to help Barcelona beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-2 in a thrilling Champions League match on Wednesday.

Messi hit the bar twice and also scored twice in the encounter, as the Spanish side condemned Spurs to a second defeat in the Champions League this season.

Former Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho and Croatia midfielder Ivan Rakitic had put the visitors 2-0 up in the first half, before England’s Harry Kane halved the deficit early in the second half.

Messi then put Barca 3-1 in front, but Erik Lamela pulled another back for Spurs, before Messi scored his second of the night to seal the win for Barca.

The other game of the group between PSV and Inter Milan ended in favour of the Serie A side, who came from behind to win 2-1.

In Group C, Neymar hat-trick inspired Paris St-Germain to an emphatic Champions League Group C victory over Red Star Belgrade at the Parc des Princes.

Edinson Cavani, Kylian Mbappe and Angel di Maria were the other goalscorers for the hosts, while Former Germany international Marko Marin scored for the Serbian side.

The other game of the group saw Napoli stun Liverpool with a late goal by Lorenzo Insigne, as the hosts snatch all three points with a 1-0 win.

In Group D, Super Eagles defender, Brian Idowu, made his second Champions League appearance for Locomotiv Moscow who fell to 1-0 defeat to German club, Schalke 04.

FC Porto also defeated Henry Onyekuru’s Galatasaray 1-0 in the group’s other game.
