UCL: Porto lose to Juventus as Sevilla take lead against Leicester

Portuguese League side FC Porto fell at the Estádio do Dragão losing 0-2 to Serie A giants Juventus in the first leg of their Champions League knockout stage clash on Wednesday night.

Substitutes Marko Pjaca and Daniel Alves struck goals within two minutes of one another as the Italian side punished 10-man Porto to take charge of the tie.

Alex Telles was dismissed after two bookings in a 74-second spell, the second after a wild sliding tackle on Stephan Lichtsteiner, to leave the home side short of one man from near the half hour mark.

Juventus, with 74% possession, broke through late in the game when Pjaca drove low into the net five minutes after coming from the bench and Alves finished from six yards 80 seconds after his own introduction.

In the other game of the night, Spanish La Liga giants Sevilla beat English Premier League champions Leicester City 2-1, as Jamie Vardy’s consolation goal keeps alive their hopes of reaching the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel saved a Correa penalty with the score at 0-0 and made a number of other good saves – which makes him the other hero of the night for Leicester.

Sevilla had over 70% possession, before Vardy finished Danny Drinkwater’s superb cross with 17 minutes remaining for the visitors, who’ll now welcome Sevilla to the King Power with hope in their hearts.

“Everyone has given 110% and everyone has come off absolutely blowing,” Vardy said after the match.

“We knew we had to be patient and take our chances but we knew we could hurt them on the press and that’s what Danny (Drinkwater) did. He got it over to me and I slipped it in.”

The return leg of both ties will be on March 14.
