UCL: Raphinha nets hat-trick as Barca thrash Bayern; Man City, Liverpool win

Raphinha was in great from for Barcelona as he bagged a hat-trick in their big victory over Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Spanish giants sealed a 4-1 win over the Bundesliga side in a thrilling encounter at the Camp Nou.

Raphinha opened the scoring inside the first minute after latching on to a ball over the top and rounding goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, before England captain Harry Kane equalised from Serge Gnabry’s cross in the 18th minute.

The hosts continued to push and Robert Lewandowski put them up again 18 minutes later, before Raphinha scored on the stroke of halftime and scored again early in the second half.

Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich are now 23rd in the Champions League league phase table having lost their last two matches and tasted defeat to Barcelona for the first time since 2015.

At the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City secured a 5-0 thrashing of Sparta Prague, with Erling Haaland scoring a brace.

Phil Foden, John Stones, and Matheus Nunes were the other goalscorers for the English champions, who have now stayed unbeaten in all three outings in the Champions League this season.

Elsewhere, Liverpool sealed a 1-0 victory over RB Leipzig in Germany, with Darwin Núñez netting the winner in the 27th minute of the game.

In the other Champions League encounters on Wednesday, Young Boys were beaten 1-0 at home by Inter Milan, RB Salzburg lost 2-0 to Dynamo Kyiv, and Atletico Madrid fell to a surprise 3-1 home loss to Lille.

Earlier in the day, Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman was in action for Atalanta but they were held to a goalless draw by Celtic, while Bayer Leverkusen played a 1-1 draw at Brest.
