UCL: Ronaldo scores hat-trick as Real thrash Atletico

World Best player, Cristiano Ronaldo, scored another Champions League hat-trick as Real Madrid hammered city rivals, Atletico Madrid, in the semi-final first leg at Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday night.

The victory, which puts Real in a comfortable lead going to the second leg, brings them close to a third final in four years.

The home side were utterly dominant throughout the game, and got ahead after 10 minutes when Ronaldo headed home Casemiro’s cross.

On 73 minutes, Ronaldo again smashed an unstoppable shot from 16 yards past Atletico keeper Jan Oblak, who had made several saves to keep his side in the tie.

And the Portuguese made it 3-0 only four minutes to stoppage time. It was his easiest goal of the night, as he controlled Lucas Vazquez’s cross in plenty of space before firing home.

“It was a total team match,” Ronaldo, who has now scored 400 Madrid goals, said after the match.

“We have a good advantage, but this is not closed. Atletico is very strong, they are not in the semi-finals by chance and we have to concentrate on Wednesday.”

Meanwhile, Atletico only had one shot on target and will need to pull off one of the Champions League’s all-time special performances to stop double-chasing Real from ending their European dreams for the fourth straight season.
