Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos believes his side winning this season’s Champions League title would ‘eclipse a little bit’ of rivals Barcelona’s double of La Liga and Copa del Rey.

The central defender was speaking ahead of Saturday’s final showdown against Liverpool at the Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex, Kiev, Ukraine.

Real had a relatively poor season in the La Liga as they finished third behind winners Barcelona and runners-up Atletico Madrid, but are on the verge of clinching a record third successive Champions League title when they face Liverpool this weekend.

“If Madrid wins the Champions League, it would eclipse a little bit Barcelona’s double,” Ramos told Cadena Cope.

“They are worthy of their two titles but if your direct rival wins the Champions League, the dynamic of the situation changes.

“The good thing for us is all our players have had minutes and are fresh for the final, and of course [Zinedine] Zidane will have doubts on selection, but we like how he is unpredictable.

“Everyone has shown us disrespect and said others would win the competition before us, but we have been shutting mouths on the pitch.”

Ramos also spoke about his future at the Spanish capital. He added that manager Zidane’s future in Madrid will not be decided by the outcome of the Champions League final, and hinted of a possible future move for Neymar.

“Whatever happens in Kiev, the manager will stay with us,” he said.

“I’d like to retire in Madrid, I cannot see myself playing for a club other than Real Madrid.

“Cristiano is the most important player in the history of Real Madrid, for sure.

“Neymar has opened the door for a move here, we will see.”

Real will battle Liverpool on Saturday at 7:45pm (Nigerian time).
