UK PM May faces contempt charges over failure to publish Brexit legal advise

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Theresa May faces more trouble ahead as opposition Labour Party heads push against her government over her failure to publish a Brexit legal advice.

Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow said the government’s failure to publish the Brexit legal advise may have contravened parliamentary rules.

In a statement to the Commons on Monday evening, Bercow said there was an “arguable case” that a contempt of Parliament had been committed by the government after it refused to reveal the full extent of counsel it had been given on May’s EU withdrawal plan.

The development comes days after Sam Gyimah, a UK minister for science and universities resigned on over the controversial Brexit deal becoming the sixth minister to resign from government in protest.

Gyimah noted while throwing in the towel that, May’s deal meant Britain would surrender its “voice and its veto” and that the prime minister should not rule out the prospect of a second referendum.
