UK PM May says she’ll push for more sanctions against Russia

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Theresa May has informed that she’ll be pushing for more sanctions against Vladimir Putin’s Russia at a summit of EU leaders which will be staged later this month.

“I will be pressing to ensure that we maintain sanctions against Russia,” May told parliament. “Indeed, I think there are some areas where we should be enhancing that sanctions regime.”

Relations between London and Moscow hit a post-Cold War low earlier this year after the poisoning of a former Russian spy in an English city that Britain blamed on Russia.

Last July, a bill to slap new sanctions on Russia was also overwhelmingly agreed to be passed into law by the U.S. House of Representatives.

President Donald Trump was also forced to obtain lawmakers’ permission before easing any sanctions on Moscow.

Russia has been condemned by the US for its alleged hacks aimed at swaying the Nov. 8 election for Trump.

Last year, former FBI director James Comey testified before the American Senate where he claimed that Trump tried to undermine his efforts into Russia hacking of the last US elections.
