Umahi plants brother as S'East PDP nat'l vice chairman causing fracas

It was another show of shame on Saturday at the South East congress of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as a faceoff between Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State and his Senior Special Assistant on Internal Security, Ali Odefa, led to exchange of blows among delegates to the congress held in Enugu.

Odefa had wanted to contest for the post of National Vice Chairman, South East zone and had picked the form. However, a petition written by the Governor was read to the delegates, alleging that Odefa had not resigned from his appointment before standing for the election.

The Governor therefore nominated his immediate younger brother, Augustine Umahi for the position, effectively disqualifying Odefa.

Aggrieved by the development, Odefa moved to the podium to clear himself, which led to exchange of blows.

Though manhandled, Odefa insisted he resigned as SSA as far back as April 15 and was later escorted out of the Okpara Square venue of the congress in the presence of national leaders and governors of the party while the Governor’s younger brother was returned unopposed as the national vice-chairman South East.

Other officers elected at the congress include Casmiir Ugwu as Zonal Secretary, Victor Asams as Organising Secretary, Mary Omile as Women Leader, Emeka Okeke as Treasurer and Chidiebere Egwu as Youth Leader.

Shouldn’t there be some honour left, even among thieves? So the back stabbing and up staging continues. Among themselves these guys have no trust, how then can we expect them to be worthy of our trust?? Shame!!!!
