North Korea’s launch of a long-range rocket into orbit Sunday which Pyongyang say is part of a purely scientific space programme has been strongly condemned by the UN Security Council.
Rising from an urgent meeting with council members stage in New York, the strongest arm of the UN declared that it would soon adopt sanctions for North Korea.
In an address after the closed-door meeting, US Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power said Washington would “ensure that the Security Council imposes serious consequences” on Pyongyang.
The controversy surrounding North Korea’s recent satellite launch boiled over considering the fact that it is coming weeks after the East Asian country held a fourth nuclear test which the UN say both violate its resolutions.
