The recurring injuries to Torino midfielder Joel Obi has made his to be ruled out of Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania.

The 24-year-old has been battling to recover from a muscle problem in time and it is now confirmed that he has been excluded from the trip to Dar es Salaam.

Super Eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh will not be drafting in a replacement for the former Inter man.

“Unfortunately Joel did not recover in time for the coming match against Tanzania, Super Eagles media officer Toyin Ibitoye said.

“The coaches were already a step ahead of happenings and that is why we had 24 players in the list including six players from the premier division in the country.

“So the exclusion of Joel still leaves us with 23 players.

“As it stands there will be no late call-ups unless there is need for such. Among the six players in the camp from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) are very capable replacements for him.”
