UNILAG shut down over student’s death

The death of a female student, Ouchi Anekwe, at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Akoka, on Tuesday has led to the closure of the institution as scores of students took to the streets on Wednesday to vent their anger over the incident.

The school authorities ostensibly closed the school to avoid the destruction of the school property by the protesting students.

The deceased, who was a 300 level student from the Department of Accountancy, was electrocuted on the campus near a female hostel known as Madam Tinubu Hall.

She was said to be waiting for a friend when a high voltage cable snapped off a pole and electrocuted her.

Attempts to save her life failed as she was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Oluchi was said to be a First Class student before her death .
