Unite and confront Israel, Erdogan tells OIC leaders

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has urged leaders of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to unite and confront Israel over recent killings.

While addressing members at an extraordinary summit of the OIC on Friday, Erdogan said Israel should be held accountable for the killing of Palestinians in Gaza Strip which drew widespread condemnation.

“To take action for Palestinians massacred by Israeli bandits is to show the whole world that humanity is not dead,” Erdogan told the group of Muslim leaders gathered in Turkey’s largest city, Istanbul.

The Turkish president described Israel’s killing of Palestinians as “thuggery, atrocity and state terror,” and said the US’ recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital would inevitably haunt it.

Last week, bloody clashes erupted at the Gaza border with protesters slinging rocks and Israeli forces shooting and using tear gas to disperse the angry crowd hours before the US embassy opening in Jerusalem.

According to reports, at least 38 Palestinians including women were shot dead by Israeli troops after infuriated demonstrators clashed with security forces.

Hamas-run health ministry says aside the number of dead victims, 1,000 other people were injured, as Palestinians hurled stones and firebombs, while the Israeli military used snipers as black smoke poured from burning tyres.
