University don murdered by his driver, valuables stolen, suspect arrested

Investigations into the death of a university professor who was suspectedly murdered in cold blood by his 25-year-old driver has commenced, so says the Gombe State Police Command.

That much was revealed during the parade of the yet-to-be identified suspect who according to the police “robbed and killed the victim while his car, an unspecified amount of cash, two phones and other valuables were taken away by the suspect.”

The victim who was a boss of the suspect, was until his death, a lecturer with the Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State.

While addressing newsmen during the parade of suspects at the Police Headquarters in Gombe, the capital, the Police Public Relations Officer in Gombe State, Obed Malum, revealed that the police swung into action after the incident was reported.

Malu said; “Consequent upon the receipt of the sad, bewildering and disturbing report, the Deputy Commissioner in charge of the Department of Criminal Investigation led a team of detectives to visit and review the scene of the crime.

“Thereafter, the Commissioner of Police immediately constituted a team of professional detectives headed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police to unravel the motive behind the crime, trail and arrest the perpetrators within the shortest possible time.

“The team was empowered and they immediately swung into action and the driver was arrested.”
