Where are our senators? Senate adjourns plenary after only 20 members showed up!

With concerns of who leads as the President of the 9th Senate settled with the emergence of Senator Ahmed Lawan, Nigerian senators are now casting their votes to determine who becomes the Deputy Senate President.

As expected, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege is in the race. He is however contesting the position with a surprise nomination, former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.

The nomination of Ekweremadu, an opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator, came rather as a surprise.

He had in 2015 won the position to the chagrin of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and many of them are supposedly still embittered with that development.

Accepting his nomination and making a case on why his colleagues should re-elect his as the Deputy Senate President, Ekweremadu had recalled the incident in the 8th Senate, when thugs invaded the Assembly and stole the Mace of the lawmakers.

Omo-Agege, his follow contender is alleged to have brought in the thugs.
