US based Nigerian student dies of coronavirus

A Nigerian student based in the United States of America identified as Bassey Offiong has died of coronavirus.

The deceased, a 25-year-old student of Western Michigan University was said to have reported symptoms of fever, fatigue and shortness of breath but was turned down severely.

According to his sister identified as Asari Offiong, medics said Bassey’s case passed for symptoms of bronchitis and refused him a coronavirus test in the Kalamazoo area since he lived off campus.

“I told him to ask them to test him. He said they refused to test him.” She said.

The deceased was expected to graduate with a degree in chemical engineering before the unfortunate incident happened.

The Kalamazoo County Health & Community Services Department later released a statement saying; “We are truly saddened to learn of the death of a Western Michigan University student due to COVID-19. Our thoughts are with the student’s family and WMU as they grieve the loss of a loved one. We know this student was not a Kalamazoo County resident; however, this virus has no borders when it comes to who it affects and how it is spread… Stay home and, if you must go out for essential items, stay safe by taking preventative measures.”
