US CAPITOL: Cops open fire on woman who tried to run her car over policemen

A woman who tried to run over police officers on Wednesday in front of the U.S. Capitol was shot at by cops stationed at a cruiser near the premises.

A police spokeswoman said the incident which saw the woman try to run over cops at the Capitol did not appear related to terrorism.

According to Capitol Police spokeswoman Eva Malecki while speaking to reporters, there were no injuries in the incident at the base of Capitol Hill, and the driver has been arrested.

“Although preliminary, this incident appears criminal in nature with no nexus to terrorism,” Malecki said.

The incident coming a week after five people were killed and about 40 injured in London when a car ploughed into pedestrians near Britain’s parliament and the suspected Islamist-inspired attacker stabbed a police officer.
