Top-level talks over North Korea’s threat due to its continued missile activities are set to be on the agenda when US secretary of state meets Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

Reports say Tillerson hopes to convince President Jinping to look into an economic squeeze of North Korea as it hopes it will compel the reclusive country’s retreat from nuclear arms and missile programmes.

Tillerson is expected to hold talks with China’s top diplomat State Councillor Yang Jiechi, Foreign Minister Wang Yi as well as President Jinping as it sees China as critical to averting a military confrontation with Pyongyang.

24-hours ago, China tightened its noose on sanctions imposed on North Korea after ordering businesses owned by the pariah nation led by Kim Jong-Un to close by January.

China’s commerce ministry said on Thursday that companies, including joint ventures with Chinese firms, have 120 days to close from the date the UN resolution was adopted on September 11.

The move will witness the cutting of foreign revenue for Pyongyang under United Nations sanctions imposed over its continued provocative nuclear and missile programmes.
