US Congress reaches deal for Russia, Iran & N'Korea sanctions

The United States Congress has reached a deal to slam Russia, Iran and North Korea with sanctions.

According to Steny Hoyer of Maryland, the No. 2 House Democrat, the deal was reached on Saturday after US Congressional Republicans and Democrats agreed to punish Moscow for its military aggression in Ukraine and also for meddling in the last US presidential election.

“US lawmakers had settled lingering issues with the bill, which also includes stiff economic penalties against Iran and North Korea”, Hoyer said.

Hoyer added that; “The legislation ensures that both the majority and minority are able to exercise our oversight role over the administration’s implementation of sanctions.”

A key section of the bill mandates a congressional review if US President Donald Trump attempts to ease or end the sweeping sanctions against Moscow, Iran and North Korea.

Russia has been condemned by the US for its alleged hacks aimed at swaying the Nov. 8 election for Trump.

Recall a month ago that former FBI director James Comey testified before the American Senate where he claimed that Trump tried to undermine his efforts into Russia hacking of the last US elections.
