US court jails 26-yr-old woman for leaking NSA documents

A court in the United States of America has slammed a 26-year-old woman identified as Reality Winner with a 5-year jail term for leaking documents of the National Security Agency (NSA).

While in court, Winner pleaded guilty to a single count of transmitting national security information after mailing a classified report to a news organisation.

During the court session, Winner apologised and acknowledged that what she did was wrong, taking responsibility for “an undeniable mistake that I made”.

“I would like to apologise profusely for my actions,” she told the judge. “My actions were a cruel betrayal of my nation’s trust in me.”

The former Air Force translator who worked as a contractor at a National Security Agency (NSA) office in Augusta, Georgia was sentenced to more than five years in prison as part of a deal with prosecutors.
