US govt shutdown enters 28th day as row deepens

The standoff over President Donald Trump’s demand for $5.7 billion to help fund a US-Mexico border wall continues deepening a row with Congress as partial government shutdown enters 28th day.

Reports say the latest face-off was recorded when Trump blocked permission for congressional delegation’s to use military aircraft.

The move also prevented Congress from approving legislation to restore funding to about a quarter of the federal government, which closed down partially on December 22.

Trump had earlier disagreed with Republican Senator Lindsey Graham’s proposal to reopen the government for three weeks.

Trump’s rejection of the proposal from a Republican ally in the Senate which could have temporarily reopened closed parts of the government.

According to Graham, if talks with Trump failed, then the President could go ahead and declare a national emergency to bypass Congress and get money for the controversial wall.
