The United States has issued a stern warning to the North Korean government led by Kim Jong-Un over its defying nuclear activities.

The warning was issued at the end of a two day visit to Seoul, South Korea by Donald Trump’s defence secretary who warned North Korea on Friday of an “effective and overwhelming” response if Pyongyang chooses to use nuclear weapons, while also reassuring Seoul of steadfast U.S. support.

“Any attack on the United States, or our allies, will be defeated, and any use of nuclear weapons would be met with a response that would be effective and overwhelming,” Defence Secretary Jim Mattis said at South Korea’s defence ministry.

In the same vein, Iran’s decision to test-fire a ballistic missile on Sunday is helping to trigger Trump’s decision to impose new sanctions on them, although Washington has not accused Iran of violating the nuclear deal.

Iran’s latest test-firing of a ballistic missile has reportedly put Trump in a foul mood with reports suggesting White House has put Tehran on notice in a move which could further increase tension in the region.

Though, White House has not given any inkling as to what sanctions will be imposed on Iran for its missile test, Trump’s body language suggests the imposing of new sanctions, to curb what he sees as defiance of a nuclear deal negotiated in 2015 by then-President Barack Obama.
