US prepares for wild storms as Hurricane Mathew slams Haiti, kills 6 in Cuba
Described as one of the most dangerous and fiercest storms to hit the Caribbean’s in 10 years, Hurricane Mathew has hit Cuba killing six people after smashing Haiti and it is said to be on its way to the US.
The heavy storm which triggering mass floods according to a US-based monitor has left destruction of lives and property in its wake.
“Northern eyewall of extremely dangerous Hurricane Matthew already pounding the eastern tip of Cuba,” read the latest bulletin from the National Hurricane Center issued at 2100 GMT.
Reports say at least one fisherman reportedly drowned off the Haitian coast as the storm closed in, and four deaths were recorded in the neighbouring Dominican Republic, bringing the hurricane’s death toll in the Caribbean to at least six.
