US says it will impose new sanctions on Russia over nerve agent attack

The United States has stated it’s intention to impose fresh sanctions on Russia over the nerve agent attack on former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in the Salsbury area of the United Kingdom.

That much information was revealed by the spokeswoman of the US State Department, Heather Nauert, who revealed in a statement that it has been confirmed that Russia “has used chemical or biological weapons in violation of international law”.

Nauert further revealed in the statement that the sanctions would take effect on or around August 22, but did not specify the nature of the new punitive measures to be imposed on Moscow.

However, NBC, a US news network, cited a senior state department official as saying that the sanctions would be structured in two tranches.
