US Senate moves to end govt shutdown without funds for Trump's border wall

Moves to end partial government shutdown which has now stretched to a month in the United States of America is being made by the Senate.

Reports say Congress shifted slightly closer to resolving the shutdown, but there was no sign of relief anytime soon for 800,000 federal staff who are working without pay.

According to reports, Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has laid the groundwork for a vote on Thursday on a Democratic proposal to fund the government for three weeks.

However, the proposal will not include the $5.7 billion U.S.-Mexico border wall funding demanded by President Donald Trump.

Days ago, a proposal by Trump to offer temporary protection for DACA, TPS recipients in exchange for $5.7bn in funding for border wall was described as inadequate by Democrats.

The proposal which seeks to extend protections for young undocumented people brought to the country as children was dismissed as a non-starter, with Democrats calling on Trump to re-open the government first.
