US suspends nuclear treaty with Russia, issues threats

In a bid to call Russia to order, the United States of America has suspended its compliance with the Intermediate Range Nuclear Force Treaty (INF), signed with Moscow years ago.

According to US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, Washington will also officially withdraw from the landmark 1987 arms control accord in six months if Moscow does not end its violation of the pact.

Pompeo said the US government is making efforts to provide Russia with a formal notice withdrawing from INF treaty, and if Moscow does not comply, the treaty “will be terminated”

According to reports, an American withdrawal has been expected for months and it follows repeated accusations that Moscow is violating the INF treaty – an allegation that Russia has vehemently denied.
