US unaware of consequences of oil ban, Iranian President says

Days after the United States of America launched a campaign to reduce Iran’s oil earnings, the pariah nation through its President Hassan Rouhani said Donald Trump’s administration is unaware of the consequences of oil ban imposed on Tehran.

Rouhani in a statement in Tehran on Wednesday warned of the consequences of such a move noting that his country will stand firm against threats by the United States to halt Iranian oil shipments.

“The Americans say they want to reduce Iranian oil exports to zero… It shows they have not thought about its consequences,” Rouhani was quoted as saying by state news agency IRNA on while on an official visit to Vienna.

The comments of the Iranian leader is coming hours after the US State Department spelled out a campaign of “maximum economic and diplomatic pressure” to drive Iran towards negotiating a “better” deal to replace the Iran nuclear deal.

Sources say Washington’s goal is to get as many countries as possible down to zero Iranian oil imports.

Brian Hook, the State Department Director of Policy Planning while fielding questions from newsmen said Iran is not a “normal” country and must meet 12 demands in order to be relieved of US sanctions.
