Usain Bolt loses Olympic gold as team-mate tests positive to banned substance

World’s fastest man Usain Bolt will be forced to return one of his nine Olympic gold medals after his Jamaican team-mate Nesta Carter tested positive for a banned substance.

Carter, who was recently named one of the country’s most successful athletes, was part of Bolt’s Jamaican sprint relay team that came first in the 4x100m at the Beijing Olympics back in 2008.

The 31-year old was found to have stimulant methylhexaneamine in his system when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) retested 454 doping samples in 2016.

Carter, who also made up Jamaica’s record- breaking relay squad at London 2012, ran the first leg of the Beijing relay for Jamaica in a team with Michael Frater, Asafa Powell, as well as Bolt.

As it stands, the 4×100 gold medal from Beijing will now be handed to Trinidad & Tobago’s team which originally won silver, while Brazil will be upgraded to bronze.
