American athlete, Tori Bowie, has won the 100m gold in the women’s final at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in London on Sunday.

Bowie won the race in 10.85 seconds ahead of Ivory Coast’s Marie-Josee Ta Lou who ran 10.86 seconds, and Netherlands’ Dafne Schippers at 10.96 seconds.

This is happening a night after fellow American Justin Gatlin stunned athletics legend, Usain Bolt, to win the gold medal in the men’s category.

Bowie went one better than in Rio Olympics as her perfect dip on the finish line nicked the race from Ta Lou by one-hundredth of a second.

“I feel the hard work has finally paid off,” Bowie said after the victory. “I couldn’t be more happy. It hasn’t even sunk in. Am I really the world champion?”

Meanwhile, Jamaican favourite, Elaine Thompson, who won gold in both the 100m and 200m in Rio, did not live up to expectations as her bad start in the final race saw her fade into fifth position.
