Uzoho faces disciplinary action for providing invalid health documents in Cyprus

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho has been handed a one match suspension and a fine of 1000 Euros by the Football Association of Cyprus (CFA).

The suspension means he is set to miss the final match of the Cypriot regular season.

According to reports by Miami Herald, the ruling follows a complaint about the ineligibility of the goalkeeper in Anorthosis’ match against Apollon Limassol on February 2.

In a 17-page ruling, the CFA’s sports adjudicator ruled that Uzoho played with an invalid medical certificate and his team, Anorthosis Famagusta have been deducted six points and also awarded Apollon the win of February 2.

20-year-old Uzoho was omitted from the squads that faced Nea Salamis and Omonia Nicosia in the Cypriot First Division as the Cyprus Sports Organization had initially declared his health certificate void as of Feb. 9, but in a follow-up decision Monday annulled it altogether, saying that it considered the document “as never have been issued.”

Uzoho reportedly told Police that he was on the plane to Cyprus when the medical certificate was issued and this means he did not undergo the necessary medical before making his debut.

Three people, including Anorthosis deputy chairman Kyriacos Yiangou, were arrested in connection with the invalid medical certificate issued but have been released.

Meanwhile, the club have confirmed they will appeal against the nine-point deduction imposed by the CFA.

It should be recalled that Uzoho joined Anorthosis on loan from Spanish club Deportivo La Coruna on Jan. 31.
