Venus Williams crashes out of WTA finals

American Tennis star, Venus Williams could not go beyond the first round of the WTA finals in Singapore after falling 6-2 6-2 to Karolina Pliskova on Sunday.

Czech world number three Pliskova beat the Wimbledon finalist in an hour and twelve minutes.

Williams, the oldest player at this year’s tournament at 37, has appeared five times at the end of season event.

Later on Sunday, current world number two Garbine Muguruza beat Jelena Ostapenko 6-3 6-4 to join Pliskova at the top of the White Group.

The Red Group gets under way on Monday, with seven of the eight finalists able to finish the year as world number one.

Muguruza won the slam at Wimbledon and topped the rankings for three weeks this year.
