In victory, Tinubu accepts Akeredolu
Success obviously has many relatives, as the victory of Rotimi Akeredolu as governor-elect has attracted commendations from one who opposed his emergence as the APC candidate for the Ondo governorship election.
National leader of the APC and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday commended Akeredolu for “his perseverance and persistence in seeking that office”.
It would be recalled that Tinubu was among those in the forefront of opposition against the party’s primaries that produced Akeredolu as candidate of the party for the poll.
He had even called for the resignation of the party’s national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun over the primaries that took place in Ondo State.
Tinubu had also made himself absent from the mega rally of the party which was attended by President Muhammadu Buhari to garner support for Akeredolu. So also a number of governors in the region known to be Tinubu’s allies.
Tinubu in a congratulatory message he personally signed also made an “appeal to all party members including those who have been disaffected from the primary until today to come together for the good of our party and it’s progressive ideals.”
He also said “I must also congratulate the people of Ondo State for their generally exemplary conduct on election day and for demonstrating their will to shun the regressive politics of yesterday by returning to the progressive brand of politics that has been the trademark of the people of that state.
“Finally, I must express profound congratulations to President Muhammadu Buhari, the national leader of the party, whose stature and dignity helped guide the APC to another victory that should advance the progressive aims of the party and the people.
“To all the people and parties in Ondo. Your election has been had and held. Now is the time that all must work for the continued development, prosperity and peace of your state and our beloved country”, he stated.
