Vigilante arrested with gun, 172 cartridges in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 57-year-old man, Edokpa Patrick, for possession of arms and ammunition. The suspect was apprehended at Ugomonson community with a single barrel gun and 172 live cartridges.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Moses Yamu, the police acted on intelligence to arrest the suspect. “The suspect was arrested in possession of one unlicensed single barrel gun with 172 live cartridges,” Yamu said.

During interrogation, Edokpa claimed to be a member of a vigilante group but also admitted to selling live cartridges. He further revealed that his wife, Blessing Edokpa, who is currently at large, was the one selling the cartridges and that she usually gets supplies from Onitsha in Anambra State.

Yamu stated that the suspect would be charged in court as soon as the investigation is completed. He also urged the public to report any suspicious persons or activities, emphasizing the police’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state.

In his words, “We appeal to the general public to report suspicious persons or activities around them as we strive to ensure the safety of lives and property in the state.”
