Vote counting begins in CAR

After successful completion of second round run-off elections between former prime ministers Faustin Touadera and Anicet Dologuele, vote counting is underway in the Central African Republic.

Run-off polls underway in CARThe closely watched presidential run-off contest by the two former prime ministers was staged in the hope by many that it will help usher in stability after years of bloodshed.

Sunday’s presidential run-off that will now determine who will be charged with the challenge of restoring peace and reuniting an already impoverished nation.

The election is coming after civil strife which led to bloodshed after a mainly Muslim rebel group seized power in 2013.

The contestants Touadera and Dologuele, have both pledged to restore security and boost the economy of CAR considered to be one of the world’s most unstable countries.
