Paucity of funds may affect conduct of Bayelsa, Kogi polls - INEC

The electorate in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State will not exercise their civic rights, at least for now, after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) cancelled elections in the area.

According to INEC, the election in the LGA has been postponed to another date after voting failed to take off owing to the inability to get electoral materials to the area.

The decision to postpone the election in Bonny LGA was confirmed by Edwin Enabor, the commission’s spokesperson in Rivers State who said the polls will be staged on another date set by INEC.

“In Bonny, there was no election at all,” said Mr Enabor, adding that: “the exercise there has been postponed. It will hold on another day.”

There had been earlier reports of protesting APC members who stopped materials and personnel from leaving the INEC office, claiming that the ballot papers deployed to the area were fake.

Emerging reports, however, say that electoral umpire, INEC, will reschedule elections where the process had been marred by violence.
