WAFU Cup: Eagles in must-win clash with Ghana for semi-final spot

The home-based Super Eagles edged Sierra Leone on Monday night to advance to the group stages of the 2017 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Cup in Ghana.

After over 80 minutes without a goal from both teams, Osas Okoro of Enugu Rangers broke the deadlock with a freekick he converted about seven minutes to stoppage time to put Nigeria ahead.

And just about four minutes after the opener, substitute Moses Peter of Plateau United sealed the victory at 2-0 for Nigeria.

The win means Nigeria have now qualified for the group stage of the tournament, where they will face hosts Ghana, Mali and Guinea in Group A.

Their first group game is against Ghana on Thursday.
