WAFU Cup: Eagles in must-win clash with Ghana for semi-final spot

Having picked up draws in their first two group games in the ongoing 2017 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Nations Cup, Nigeria seek a win on Monday to advance.

With a record of two scoreless stalemate in Group A against Mali and Guinea last Thursday and Saturday respectively, the Super Eagles have only two points and must win their final group game to be sure of a place in the last four.

The Eagles will face a tough test against Ghana, who already qualified for the semifinals with two wins – against Mali and Guinea.

The final group games will be played simultaneously on Monday, and a win for either Mali and Guinea would knock the Eagles out of the tournament if they fail to defeat Ghana.

“The whole team are disappointed we could not beat Guinea and we know Nigerians are also not happy,” Plateau United’s Dele Ajiboye said ahead of the game.

“But we still hope to give everything to beat Ghana and qualify for the next round of the competition.”

The Eagles will face Ghana in Cape Coast by 7pm Nigerian time.
