WAFU Cup: Falcons top group with win over Mali, set up semifinal clash vs Ghana

It is now three wins from three games for the Super Falcons of Nigeria at the ongoing WAFU Women’s Cup holding in Abidjan, Cote d’ivoire.

The Falcons defeated Mali 2-0 in their final group match at the Stade Robert Champroux on Tuesday to emerge winners of the Group B.

Following wins over Burkina Faso and Niger Republic, the Nigerian ladies got the best of their Malian counterparts with two second half goals from Rafiat Sule and Uchenna Kanu.

The Thomas Dennerby girls have now scored 22 goals in three games so far with Uchenna Kanu scoring nine of them.

They will face the runners-up of Group A, Ghana in the semi-final of the competition, which is part of preparations ahead of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Nigeria have been drawn against Norway, Korea Republic and hosts France in the showpiece billed to hold between June 7th and July 7th.

The nine-time African champions will file out against Norway in Reims on 8th June, take on Korea Republic in Grenoble on 12th June and tango with host nation France in Rennes on 17th June.
