Wailing, gnashing of teeth as Oyo govt finally demolishes Ayefele's radio station

The government of Oyo State has carried out its planned demolition of the Music House, the building housing Fresh FM 109.5, Ibadan owned by gospel singer Ayefele.

Reports say the premises located along the Lagos-Ibadan by-pass in Challenge area of Ibadan was thronged by sympathisers and onlookers who condemned the action of the state government.

The demolition was carried out despite the fact that Ayefele, through his lawyers had sought an order restraining the government from demolishing the property.

Reacting to government’s claim that his building contravened the state’s planning laws, Ayefele in a statement said the building did not contravene any law because it has the necessary approvals from relevant government agencies.

The government had insisted that they will go ahead with the planned demolition of Ayefele’s Music House, and others noting that the demolition notice given the organisation was not based on sentiments or witch-hunting.

According to Toye Arulogun, the State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, the state government observed that property owners in the state are deviating from the originally approved building plans without seeking physical planning approvals from the Oyo State Bureau of Physical Planning and Development Control.

Reports say the contravention notices were served to different organisations since June 14, 2017 including all radio stations in the state that flouted government rules.
