The Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP) observed #GivingTuesday which has become a global event endorsed, supported and promoted by political, social and business leaders. The day was marked in Nigeria with a fund raising concert which was staged at the expansive Convention Hall of the Eko Hotel and Suites.

One of the aims of the well attended fund raiser cum concert is to help facilitate the accomplishment of the goal in the ‘Big War Against Cancer’.

Speaking at the occasion, which was anchored by Mrs. Omotayo Omotosho (MFR), Lolo 1 of Wazobia FM and Olisa Adbua, the MD of Ozafna Energy Group, Debo Adefola, while delivering his Goodwill Message said; “A lot needs to be done in the fight against cancer. As a country, we are not dedicating enough money to research and equipment. It is also pertinent to note that in this part of the world, we hide so many things especially when we are suffering from one ailment or the other.

“It is high time we do the right thing and contribute towards the scourge of cancer by committing ourselves to this cause because cancer respects nobody.”

Chairman of the Guardian group of Companies, Maiden Ibru, who herself is a victim of cancer which claimed her husband, recalled the final moments he battled with the disease.

“In the case of my husband, we discovered he had cancer very late. It was in the 4th stage which is considered terminal. The doctor said he had six months to live, but he hanged on for 25 months. It is a tough disease to manage and we must encourage CECP for this laudable initiative. My heart goes out to everyone who has lost someone to cancer. We must act now to fight this scourge”.

On a lighter note, there were breathtaking performances by fast rising act, Coker, Ruby Gyang and Kelly Hansome.

Present at the fund raising concert were personalities like Professor Pat Utomi, Dr. Christopher Kolade, Mrs Adetutu Adeleke, Chief (Mrs) Kemi Nelson, Pastor and Mrs Taiwo Odukoya, Dr Michael Omolayole, Efe Omoregbe and Audu Maikori among others.

To help fight the scourge, the Chief Movers Association pledged the donation a mobile cancer clinic towards the cause while the Dangote Foundation also pledged to support the initiative in due cause.
