It's war! As military pounds militants' hideout in Niger Delta

Operatives of the Joint Task Force (JTF) code-named Operation Delta Safe are said to have pounded a newly set-up camp of Niger Delta militants in Delta State with heavy aerial and land bombardments.

The onslaught it was learnt took place at Kosugbene village near Gbekubor around Ogbe-Ijoh in Warri South West Local Government Area of the state.

It was carried out by heavily armed soldiers in 10 gunboats as early as 7am on Thursday and assisted by the air components, which fired shots to pave way for safe landing of the personnel on the river.

According to security sources, the intelligence units of the JTF had been monitoring the development of the new camps but decided to destroy them before they become a major problem.

The operation is said to have lasted for several hours as the soldiers ensured that nothing could be salvaged from the destroyed camps.
