WASHINGTON: 1 Sikh man shot dead, another wounded in separate attacks

Attacks on Sikhs in the US seems to be on the increase following the shooting of two Sikh men which led to the death of one, and the other wounded.

In the first incident, a Sikh man repairing his car was shot and wounded in the arm by an assailant in the city of Seattle, Washington.

Reports say the Sikh man who was tending to his broken down car was told by his attacker to ‘go back to your country’.

“Some comments were made to the effect of ‘Get out of our country, go back to where you’re from’ and our victim was then shot,” Kent Police Chief Ken Thomas said at a news conference.

“To think that this could happen in our community was very surprising and extremely disappointing,” Thomas said.

The Seattle Times quoted the unnamed victim describing his attacker as a “six-foot tall white man with a stocky build” wearing a mask that partially covered his face.

The shooting of the Sikh man follows the mauling of an Indian engineer Harnish Patel in Kansas, who’s killing polices said, was not racially motivated and the wounding of two people last month in another incident.
