We cut down rice importation by 90% to boost foreign reserves —Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari said his administration has successfully cut down rice importation from other countries by 90% in 3 years.

Buhari noted that this has helped to boost the nation’s foriegn reserves significantly.

Speaking on this year’s celebration of democracy day, the President said the country was determined to produce what its citizens eat and reduce importation of food items.

“Nigeria continues to pursue a strategic food security programme built around self-sufficiency and minimization of import depency,” he said.

Thr nation’s foreign reserves grew from $29.5 billion in 2015 to $47.5 billion as of May, 2018.
