Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed has responded to a threat by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, that he would set fire in states of PDP governors supporting Rivers Governor Simi Fubara against him.

Fubara and Wike have been embroiled in a bitter feud in attempts to control the party’s structure in Rivers State.

Mohammed, who is also chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, in response, said nobody can put fire in Bauchi State because the state has plenty of water.

Governor Bala Mohammed stated this on Tuesday when he received the leadership of the National Working Committee (NEC) of the PDP who paid him a courtesy visit at his office in Bauchi.

The governor said that the crisis rocking the party was not personal, stressing that nobody should misunderstand the party as it is still united

The FCT Minister had also singled out the Bauchi governor in the attack and promised sleepless nights to governors who leave their states to challenge him in Rivers State.
“Because I heard they got some money from signature bonus and so their heads are getting big that you will put hand in my own state. Prepare because I have the capacity to also do the same thing in your own state.
“Whether you are from Bauchi I don’t give a damn, whichever state you are from, as far as I know that you are trying to put yourself in Rivers State, your hand will get burnt and you will never sleep in your state,” he said.
But while reacting to Wike’s threat, Mohammed boasted that no one can set fire to his state as there is enough water to quench such fire.
Describing Wike as a frustrated politician, Mohammed stated that disagreements within the party are never personal and should not be misunderstood.
“Nobody can put fire in Bauchi State. Bauchi has volumes of water. Even my friend that is saying that he is saying that because he is annoyed,” Mohammed stated.
“Maybe I had said something that annoyed him. But it is not personal. My friend is my friend, my job is my job and leadership is leadership.
“When we argue, it’s never personal, and no one should misunderstand that. We are united; this is not a splinter group.
“As you can see, we are united in Bauchi. No one can set Bauchi on fire. Bauchi has enough water to put out any fire. My friend who made that comment is simply frustrated. Perhaps I said something that upset him, but it’s not personal.
“While I maintain a strong personal relationship with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, I emphasized that leadership decisions are guided by responsibility and the collective good, not by personal affiliations”.

According to him, “If we have quarrel, it is not personal, nobody should misunderstand us, we are together. This is not a splinter group, this is just a delegation from the National Working Committee of the PDP. We are going to discuss some of the issues in the party”

Bala Mohammed also said that, “Yes, none of the political parties are insulated of crisis here and there, but crisis is there and that why leadership is there. We have to take the bull by the horn to discuss and look at the constitution of our party.”

“We must do things by the rule of law, we must respect people, we must put our interest aside, we must respect our diversities, we must bring and close rank, especially for party like the PDP that has a history,” he added.

Bala Mohammed further said that, “We have a pedigree, most of the developments in the country were done by the PDP, since we left nothing has happened. As you can see all the members of the National Working Committee that are here are square heads in square holes”

He then assured that as the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, he will continue to give effective and efficient leadership and meaningful opposition in the country.

The National Legal Adviser of the PDP, Kamaldeen Adeyemi Ajibade SAN, who spoke said that, “On behalf of the National Working Committee of our great Party and our colleagues present here, I bring the Governor and his team warm greetings and good tiding from the Secretariat of our great party.

He explained that, “We cannot pretend, a lot of things have been going on in our party, we cannot pretend to say that all is very well.

“We are grateful and we are glad that yourself and other Colleagues Governors have taken the bull by the horns. So, we made it necessary for us to come and identify with you and tell you that whatever steps taken by the Governors Forum under your leadership, We as representatives of the National Working Committee will accept it and ready to implement”.
