Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has expressed satisfaction with the result obtained in Dnipro where his team battled to a 2-2 draw against Ukraine in an international friendly on Tuesday night.

The Eagles led by 2-0 in just over an hour, thanks to goals by debutant Joe Aribo and Victor Osimhen, but two quick goals in the 78-79th minute by Oleksandr Zinchenko and Roman Yaremchuk levelled both sides.

“We saw a great match. Both teams played quality football. We dominated the first half, but Ukraine played at home, so the result is natural. After the break, they did much better,” Rohr told reporters after the game.

“Would I like to win Ukraine’s national team in an official tournament? No. This team is ranked 24th in the FIFA rankings, leading the way in its Euro-2020 qualifying group and is likely to reach the finals of the continent.”

It was the first time the Eagles are playing since their third-place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.

The friendly was part of preparations ahead of the 2021 AFCON qualifiers, which kicks off soonest.
