We were afraid he'll be rejected if we revealed his travel history —Family of man who died of COVID-19 in LUTH

The family of the first person that died of COVID-19 in Lagos University Teaching Hospital said they did not reveal his travel history, over fear that the hospital might reject him.

The deceased, a 55 year old man was said to have been brought into the hospital without he or his family members giving full details of his travel history.

The hospital admitted him in its emergency unit on Thursday night as a patient suffering from “malaise, tremors, and fever.”

He was also hypertensive and diabetic.

However, after the patient died on Friday with symptoms associated to coronavirus, the hospital carried out a posthumous Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test on his blood and it tested positive to COVID-19.

The family of the decease were said to have following the test result revealed that the man returned from Holland to Nigeria two weeks ago.

When asked why they kept back the deceased’s travel history from the hospital, the family said they were afraid he would be rejected.
